Hello World. We are well in Belize and enjoying island life. We hear there is some weather about but we haven't seen any of it - well perhaps a little sprinkle now and again. We are doing well, collecting and analyzing quite a bit of data. The students will be starting to blog today so stay tuned. Please follow our map (on the right - and use your curso to pan around to Belize) to watch where we are and see some of what we might be doing.
Good bye for now.
In late May 2010 19 people from Dallas' Brookhaven College again traveled from Texas to a coral reef atoll in Belize. Our purpose was to apply geospatial technologies to collect and analyze data relative to an environmental baseline study and preservation plan. Below are reflections on these adventures. We hope to help raise awareness of the issues that face coral reefs.
Welcome!
Students did post to this blog site while we conducted our field study. We invite your comments and thoughts.
Our field deployment focused on three chief tasks; 1. Mapping the reef floor in 3D, 2. Shoreline Marine Debris investigation, and 3. Environmental characteristics sampling. All went exceedingly well.
This was the second trip in our long term plans. Our first trip and proof of concept was completed with great success in the Fall of 2009; our next proposed trip will be Fall 2010. Don't you want to join us?

Hey Mom, I'm ok!
ReplyDeleteYes, there is some rain but it's more beneficial than it is burdensome! I'd rather be wet with rain than sweat, and it's still beautiful either way! I only wish the rain was 7% deet cause I'm pretty much bathing in that stuff anyway. Other than being eaten alive things have been amazing! All the cliche tropical beach things are really nothing until you see them all together in person: dolphins, sting rays, iguanas, crabs, mango and coconut trees, crystal clear and bright blue water...it's hard to describe. And now I don't really have the time cause other people need to post things.
Having a great time though!
Sounds great wish we could be there! make sure you bring back some kinda souvenir!
